  1. Hard to beat Michelangelo. I like how Mary looms large compared to her sacred Son. She is magnified by her suffering, her compassion, and her obedience to the will of God. This is a very Catholic work created just before the Protestant Reformation. I haven't used this sculpture in my survey course before, but now I think about it, I've gotta include it. I can just cut Raphael.
